Under the global BEE Pink initiative, Pink Lady® Apples South Africa is committed to promoting sustainable beekeeping and planting bee-friendly trees for reforestation.

Through this initiative, Pink Lady® South Africa is ensuring the availability of quality forage for honey bees, which is crucial for their survival and the health of ecosystems, and education aiming to create awareness and educate growers about the importance of honey bees in their orchards.

 

 

Honey bees play a vital role in pollinating crops and contributing to global food production. However, they are facing numerous challenges, including habitat loss, climate change, and disease.

By planting bee-friendly trees via the non-profit organisation Greenpop, Pink Lady® Apples South Africa is actively supporting the bees that are so important to food supply and the wider industry. Pink Lady® Apples South Africa are partners with Boland Cellar, Nedbank, NUXE and TopFruit via the Boland Forests for Life pledge fund at Greenpop. As of 30 March 2023, the partners have proudly planted a total of 3,872 trees.

Greenpop is an award-winning registered non-profit organisation headquartered in Cape Town, South Africa. They work to restore ecosystems and empower environmental stewards through forest restoration, urban greening, food gardening, and environmental awareness projects across Sub-Saharan Africa. Founded in 2010, they have planted over 200,000 trees and inspired over 356,000 active citizens across South Africa, Zambia, Malawi, and Tanzania.

As partners, Pink Lady® South Africa also supplies Greenpop with apples for their annual reforestation festivals, bringing people together to plant thousands of trees over a weekend. They help restore degraded land and also attend workshops, talks and classes. Through this partnership, Pink Lady® Apples South Africa aims to contribute to their efforts and make a meaningful impact on the honey bee population.
